Used to Work There

Posted byKaguraNJon 7/16/2009

While some of the staff were somewhat welcoming, the people I have dealt with were not only rude, but unsanitary. On one occasion I was putting away dishes that were washed (mind you in dirty dish water), and I was yelled at by my co-worker for being slow and unproductive, clearly whilst I was fulfilling his orders. Not only was I helping him wash the dishes, I was out getting the cheese for the pizzas (outside of the restaurant, in a locked shed), I was also holding another position as a bus boy, one who gets trays of the used dishes, and putting away scorching hot dishes. While I was doing three to four jobs at once, my co-worker was complaining that I was slow. Because of me "he has never been so behind in his life". Let me get to the point of how unsanitary the workplace is, what you don't see as a customer. They wash the dishes in old, dirty water, not changing it for at least 20 minutes. They also do not wear gloves, and the hand-sanitizer bottles were always either low or out. I witnessed a bunch of random sneezing, and coughing. While this was going on, I saw absolutely no prevention, or action is cleaning up their bodily functions. More or less, my eyes were slowly opening to the realities of the restaurant. Another example of how unsanitary Alberto's can be, is how they get the cheese for the pizza. While I assumed they would use a clamp or a sterile piece of equipment to extract the cheese from the crate, the people actually dug their unwashed hands, and nails into the cheese. Personally I found this quite disgusting, knowing that people would be sinking their teeth into fingernail crud and unclean hand particles. If I'm not mistaken, its the law to enforce sanitary procedures on your employees. Being unsanitary was only the tip of the iceberg, the attitudes of the staff were completely unsatisfactory. While working there, I felt as if I was shoveling dirt at prison, like a criminal. I was bickered at for not being fast enough in the business. While I understand being swift is valuable in the business, I believe I was entitled to some understanding, since it was my first day there. I had five minutes to learn where exactly to organize each dish (mind you there was at least 10 different types of silverware, plates, and bowls, including salad plates and utensils. Back on topic, the employees there were not only unpleasant, but down right rude. As I struggled to do three jobs at once, I was constantly complained at, and I quote, for being "a slow a** slug". I beg your pardon, but doing three jobs at once while an ex-drug dealer is barking orders at you, is very stressing and body straining. As the manager talked with me outside, I explained how I felt, and I expected a nice response, however, I received an unhelpful "deal with it, it'll get better tomorrow". The owner of the business, was also unpleasant, scolding me for one mistake like I should be fired. All I did was simply walk in the second door to the kitchen, because three waitresses were continuously filing through the first door. Lastly, I highly recommend dining elsewhere, somewhere where you know your food is being made by competent, sanitary people. If you travel a mile down the road, you will find Bella Napoli's, near Dairy Queen. They are actually pleasant and welcoming to their customers. Bella's food is also made with sanitary in mind, as you can see the kitchen right next to where you place your orders. They wear gloves, use clean dish water, have full hand sanitizer bottles when needed, and are also very pleasant to their employees, and the customers. However, at Alberto's you will find the exact opposite. While working in the back, we had to take dishes and water glasses back left and right, because there would always be residues with strong odors, or food pieces deep within the cups. Next time you order from Alberto's, you might as well ask for spaghetti in a cup, because you may find a meatball in your soda.

Amazing Pizza

I recently called and ordered two pizzas to go from Alberto's and picked them up for my family. One was a meat special and the other a veggie special. Each pizza was piled high with toppings. My family enjoyed it very much. It was probably the best pizza I have eaten in recent memory.

Horrible Service and Attitudes

It took over an hour and 15 min to get two hamburgers and I had to go to the counter to ask there where the food was while the waitress chatted with a table across the room. Another waitress grabbed the order that had been waiting i guess in the kitchen and then it was cold. When we complained about the time it took and that the food was cold the waitress actually blamed the cook for being slow. This was the third time I have been to this place and it has never been up to par.

Great food in Edgewater

The food at Alberto's is great. We love their pizza, and if you want something different, try their Phill Cheese Steak Calzone. It is amazing.
